This is the second book by Claire Thompson I've read (the other being "Switch") and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Thompson is an excellent writer and crafts well-developed and likeable characters. I'm just starting to dip my toes into the M/M/M romance territory and am enjoying it more than I expected to. This book is sexy and erotic, with several delectable scenes involving all three men that'll leave you drooling.While I liked all three characters, the threeway aspect of the story felt off to me. It felt as if Thompson was going out of her way to stress that Jamie was indeed a welcome part of the threesome, but he seemed shunted to the side on several occasions. Enough to make Jamie's overcoming of his jealousy feel a bit forced. * Mild spoilers below:
Tuck and Brendan have been attracted to each other for over a year, though Brendan's fear of his attraction to men being a nearly impossible obstacle to overcome, and there are a few occasions where each man sort of "forgets" about Jamie when the other one comes in. He always felt just a little outside the relationship to me, even as both Tuck and Brendan were expressing their affection for him and wanting him to be an equal part of their relationship. It still felt as if this was supposed to be a love story about Brendan and Tuck with Jamie just a sort of "second prize" for each of them at different times throughout the story. I found myself almost wishing that their threesome had just been a temporary thing, with Tuck and Jamie finding a HEA with just the two of them.
That said, I still very much enjoyed the story. There were several heartwrenching moments that just made me ache for each of them individually and as a menage. This is a well-crafted story that includes some steamy erotica, but focuses much more on the three men finding and falling for each other.

i loved this book so true to life wth the jealousies at the start and all the characters so full of life and jump out of the page at you 10 out of 10 for this awesome book
Hot sex scenes between three men. Polar Reaction by Claire Thompson finds three scientists stranded in Antarctica on the cusp on winter, which seems to be moving in faster than it should be. In the midst of their fear that they may not make it out in time, they discover a burning passion for each other. Misunderstandings may have been present in the beginning, but they don’t last long…that is until they really are rescued and Brendan tries to pretend nothing ever happened. Jamie and Tuck can’t do the same thing.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but while the story is for the most part well written and has steamy sex scenes, there isn’t much else to it. The story just seems lacking to me. 3 stars.
This M/M/M story is not for the faint at heart.
The heat takes off almost instantly and there is no denying the spark.
As for the plot and the real storyline...well it took a little bit to get there. But when it does, it's a pretty decent one. Frim one struggling to come to terms with his feelings and attraction to two who seems to trip right into love; in the end we're rewarded by seeing all three men come full circle and accept their not so traditional romance.
I'd rate this one 3.5, mostly based on how slowly the storyline picks up. If you're commited to sticking with it for a bit then I'd recommend it.
Claire Thompson's Polar Reaction is a lovely book. It is believable and it takes your heart on a great journey. I recommend this book for a light read and of course I would buy any more books with these three men in it. Claire takes her characters on a trip of discovery of one self and how if you love and be truthful to oneself the world as you knew it may become better and more colorful. Claire is an excellent writer and one cannot go wrong with a purchase of her books.
I love a good well written Menage and Claire Thompson writes a believable one in Polar Reaction. What happens when a blizzard strands three scientist in close quarters? Feelings and attraction come bubbling to the surface and there are enough sparks to melt the ice and snow surrounding Brendan, Jamie and Tuck. What I especially loved was after they return to normal life Thompson does not shy away from the doubts and difficulties that would arise when trying to maintain a relationship between three people. I found all three characters interesting and their relationship believable. Definitely recommended.
David Tucker, Jamie Hunter, and Brendan Aaronson are scientists paired together to work on a project in the Antarctic. Tuck has had feelings for Brendan since they worked together almost a year ago. Jamie has always liked Tuck, but has been too nervous to make a play. When they get stranded by a massive storm, will they take the opportunity to reveal their feelings?
I loved Tuck. He was the connecting piece of the threesome. He felt very strongly for Brendan, and was afraid to make a move. He didn't want to strain the friendship they had since Brendan billed himself as straight. Tuck was sensitive, strong and fiercely loving.
Brendan was confused about his feelings, he'd never had them towards one man before, let alone two of them. Could it be ok? What did it say about him? He questioned himself a lot, and even tried getting back with his ex after they were rescued.
Jamie was the younger fun, outgoing one of the trio. He didn't like seeing Tuck depressed after Brendan's reasoning for what happened when they were trapped. He'd fallen in love with Tuck and would do anything to make him happy. I absolutely loved Jamie's personality, and how protective he was over Tuck.
Overall I loved this book. It was well written and Claire does a great job of drawing you into the dynamic of the three men. It's a great story of forbidden attractions and love. I would definitely read more from this author.
